 "samsung no thankyou" 2009-09-05
By Mr. GTD MORRIS (W Yorkshire England)
2 years ago i purchaced a Samsung Nv10 digital camera, it never worked properly from day 1, the lense shutter 5 out of 10 did not open, then the whole lense cartridge assembly would jam. After a perioud of weeks i returned the camera and i was supplied with a new replacement. within weeks again exactly the same problem occurred, i returned the new replacement camera again, this time a so called repair was carried out to the lense cartidge assembly, and over a periou of weeks i have the same problem. Because of all the problems i have had with this camera it has hardly been used, and its outer physical appearance is immaculate,it has always been kept in a good quality padded case, and has never been dropped or knocked. I own an original Canon eos which must be 20 years old, and is as good as new so i know how to look after gear. My big reason for this complaint is the problems have been on going through the warranty, and now i am out of warranty i am told to pay for a repair. THE CAMERA DID NOT WORK THROUGH THE WARRNTY PERIOUD. TO rub salt in my wounds samsung ignore my letters.

"Be aware of NV10's lens issue before you buy! " 2008-08-25
By Nicholas G. Smith (London)
Mine is (or was) a really nifty little camera. A small camera with a great solid feel to it, and picture quality was really amazing. However, 6 months after I purchased the camera, the camera gives three or four beeps when I turn it on, and the lens remains stuck and is thus unusable. Reading on the Internet I gather this to be a well known problem with the NV10 (do a search under "NV10 lens stuck" on Google!). The price I've been quoted to have it repaired is too costly, so this sweet camera sits in my drawer and I am out of pocket. Having read many others owners with the same problem I would definitely advise that this is a buy at your own risk.

"Nice but buy at your own risk...!" 2008-06-17

I bought one of these after reading a glowing review from a well known computer magazine that recommended this - and still does today - as the best budget buy compact camera on the current market.

I'd have to admit that the black metal body of the camera does feel reassuringly strong however I did wonder about its ability to resist scratches where they would show up more compared against a sliver camera. The camera also has a nice weight but I'm afraid function wise, the rest left me feeling very average.

The photos were nice to look at on a computer but I don't think they were as good as my Fuji S5800 which I also bought quite recently. This quite surprised me, since from reading magazine and online reviews, I expected them to be at least as good, if not better. Of course, if I'd played with the settings on the NV8 more I may have improved the quality but then the same could be said for the Fuji.

The NV8 has face detection which the Fuji lacks, and while this is the first camera I've had with this technology, it didn't seem to work that well for me. Although it can apparently detect up to ten faces, I could never get it to pick up more than three or four despite more faces than that being clearly in the frame.

The touch sensitive buttons up and along the back of the camera were certainly gimmicky but barely necessary in my opinion and I still prefer the dial type setting. Even cameras of this price are full of wizardry and I don't think it's expecting too much for the user to at least take a little time to learn the main functions without feeling the need to compensate for them, or at least thinking they should.

The battery life was amazing however, even when I tried to deliberately discharge the 2000mh rechargeable batteries inside it through continuously taking photos and I got bored after over 150 shots. In the end, I had to switch to video mode and leave it running!

Now so far, so good but here comes the bad news. In the end my camera had to go back to the shop due to the flash opening by itself and/or not firing properly. I carried this in the same top pocket where other small cameras have previously - and happily - been carried for years but on this camera the pop-up flash did indeed keep popping up. I felt it only a matter of time before the flash would suffer from some sort of damage, possibly even snapping off, and it's this that possibly caused the intermittent malfunction. When I took it back to the shop, I was offered the display model which upon inspection also had a damaged flash. So having seen two broken cameras, mine and the shops, I decided not to risk another model and it seemed this could be a design problem. It's also interesting to see that the new Samsung NV30 - which could be seen almost as an upgrade to the NV8 but with a silver body - now sports a built in flash thus eliminating the pop-up from the NV8.

So overall, it was a nice camera in the short time I had it but I was extremely disappointed with the flash problem. You could of course carry it in a hard case where the flash will be protected but this seems such a major design flaw to me that you shouldn't even need to be compensating for it in the first place. So while I'd give it four stars for performance, the suspect flash is such a terminal fault that personally I couldn't possibly recommend it for someone else to buy in case it snapped off, leaving them with a broken camera.

 "Excellent Value for money" 2008-05-11
By A. B. Ahad (London, UK)
After reading reviews for months to buy a compact camera, I have managed to locate this Samsung NV10. To tell you the truth I am more than happy. And with the price of under £100 it can't be better.

I do filming for weddings etc and get to see hundreds of digital cameras taking shots of Bride and Groom. I haven't seen even one that takes an instant picture soon as the button is pressed. The NV10 does take the shot quite quickly I have to say. Faster than any I have seen.

And that is not the only thing which is impressing. The design is great and feels solid and has a pop up flash when it needs. The other brilliant thing is the touch screen. Actually the screen is not touch operated. It's the buttons that are located at the sides of the screen. They operate on by just touching it. No need to press except for few. I have been playing with it for few days now and loving it.

The picture quality is great, takes picture very fast and looks SEXY.

I have also brought the case to go with the camera. Together they Rock!

I am planning to get another one from Amazon. So that should tell you everything.

I have given it 5 stars as I am totally happy with it in everyway.

"3 cameras in a row were faulty" 2008-05-07
By Darren Evans
I only wish I had recieved a working camera, however the 1st one I recieved would not charge, the 2nd one had faulty menu buttons, and the 3rd had a faulty screen.

While the 1st one had enough charge in the battery it was amazing, absolutely loved the menu buttons, hence why I kept trying. A shame really, but then for only £100 what can you expect?

I have returned the last camera for a full refund as obviously 3rd time lucky did not occur with this item! Hopefully I can also return the 8gb SD card I bought with it but can no longer use...
