My son wanted a small hi rez camera for use in a world-challenge trip tomorrocco and so we looked at all specs from different manufacturers i.e. Olympus tough etc and chose in the end the Samsung ST50 in silver.
Its great to look at very slim and compact and used in UK matched our expectations. Unfortunately when he was out in the Desert area of Morrocco, this camera was the only one that wouldn't work in the high temperature, 45 Dec C and so he was unable to take pictures until it had cooled down.
After 2 months use, the Camera lens then locked in the open posistion and wouldn't retract.
Visited Samsung website and it appears to be a fault with the camera.
credit to samsung, on contacting customer services it was repaired in 2 weeks and has been used extensively since with no problems at all. Camera came with 2 year Warranty. So fingers crossed, Camera now 4 months old.
Would I buy it again, Yes.

Samsung ST50 is a very compact 12mp camera that fits easily into a pocket. Easy to use but not the quickest between photos.

Great little digital camera, very sleek, well finished and feels good to hold! Specs are amazing for such a small and thin device, although it is let down by a few minor flaws regarding what actually comes in the box. The first thing you'll notice is the lack of some kind of carry case / protective sleeve, nor a plastic screen protector - With a large LCD screen and brushed stainless casing, you really want to be protecting it from scratches, dust, & fingerprints etc. The lanyard strap that comes with it is also too long to be used effectively around the wrirst, but too short to be worn around the neck- It could have done with either being half or twice as long, so it could be used as either one or the other, and there's not adjuster either. There's also no memory card included, but I think that was to be generally expected, although a small 512MB card would have been nice to get you started so you can at least test the functions of the camera straight out of the box. The biggest quibble is regarding the battery, which is only a 720mAh, and could have done with being at least 1,000mAh, but I suppose this is the compromise to keep the unit slim and lightweight. Apart from these small problems though, it performs very well and much better than most camera's of equal specifications (Despite only having a 5x digital zoon, which to be honest isn't really a major problem).
